8th Structured Dialogue with Ms. Danuta Hübner - Brussels, 18 June 2008

The idea of a structured dialogue among the European Commission, the Committee of Regions and the associations of local and regional authorities, both European and national, first appeared in 2001. In 2003 a communication from the Commission confirmed the permanent and sistematic nature of the process.

The term "European governance" refers to the norms, procedures and behaviours that influence the way of exercing power at a European level, especially concerning transparency, participation, responsibility, efectivity and coherence.

CALRE participated in the preparation of the Commission communication and, afterwards, in a plenary session in Reggio Calabria the idea of a permanent link with the Commission for prelegislative consultations was approved. This aspect also promotes the participation of assemblies in the creation of the new European legislation for matters related to regional competences.

The 8th Thematic Structured Dialogue took place in the Committee of Regions on the 18th June 2008 with the participation of the Commissioner for Regional Policy, Ms. Danuta Hübner.

The activity has the following associated documents:

Commissioner Hübner speech on the presentation of ther 5th Progress report on economic and social cohesion

REGLEG contribution to the 5th Progress report on economic and social cohesion
